3 Reasons Custom Cabinets Are Better Than Pre-Fab Cabinets

About Me
In Which We All Learn About Construction

Do you know when we first learned the basics about construction? It might sound silly to admit this, but it was not until we had a sun room added onto our home. As the construction workers made plans, sourced materials, and then put up the structure, we were sure to ask a lot of questions and to observe the actions they took. And you know what? We were hooked! From that point on, it has been one of our goals to learn more about construction and contractors. Part of our learning journey has been to create this website and share it with you.

3 Reasons Custom Cabinets Are Better Than Pre-Fab Cabinets

When the time comes to have new cabinets put in your kitchen, there is one big decision you'll need to make before any other decision. Do you want pre-fab cabinets, or do you want custom cabinets? While pre-fab cabinets are cheaper, having cabinets custom made for your kitchen truly is worth the extra cost. Here's why.

They Will Fit Exactly

Every kitchen is sized a little differently. The chance of finding pre-fab cabinets that perfectly fit into your space is small. As such, your installer will have to make some panels and pieces to fill in the spaces where the cabinets don't quite reach. They'll make the space look okay, but it will never look quite as perfect and balanced as it would be if you were to order custom cabinets that fit perfectly. The doors will be perfectly centered, and there won't be any "blind" panels put in just to take up space.

You Can Make Cabinets to Accommodate Unique Equipment

Everyone has different equipment they use in the kitchen. Maybe you have an enormous, 16" cast iron skillet you like to cook with, or perhaps you have a stand mixer you like to use. When you have custom cabinets made, you can tell the designer about these items, and they can make sure your cabinets are designed to accommodate them. Maybe this will mean making the cabinets slightly deeper than normal, or perhaps it will mean removing the divider between two cabinets. Either way, the cabinets will be made to fit whatever equipment you have — unlike pre-fab cabinets that may not accommodate your oddly sized pieces.

You'll Have More Finish Options

When you buy pre-fab cabinets, you will typically have limited finish options. There might be a couple of stained options and a few painted options. With custom cabinetry, on the other hand, you can choose almost any finish. Pick any paint color, and the cabinet maker can put that on your cabinets. Pick any stain, and it can be used on the cabinet doors. You can even do your top cabinets one color and the bottom cabinets a different color — a style choice that is becoming more popular lately.

If you can afford to pay a little more for custom cabinets, then they are the premier choice for your home. Have them painted or stained the way you like, created to fit, and designed to accommodate your equipment. Contact Gerald L Scott Custom Cabinetry for more information.
